Using Cynthia is easy. Enter your page to test. This
is a required value.
Select your Report Mode: Section 508 (which is
required for US Federal agencies, or WCAG 1.0 Priority 1, Priority 1,2, Priority
1,2,3 which are based on the World Wide Web Consortium standards.
If you are interested in just Priority 1 and are not
testing for Priority 2 or 3, we still recommend that you test priority 2 and 3
for the educational value.
If you want to test priority 2 and 3, but do not want
to be told that you fail for those checkpoints, you can check off the Do not
fail for Priority 2 and 3 errors checkbox, and simply have the report warn you
for priority 2 and 3 failures, versus failing the page!
The Alternative Text Quality report is a report that
looks at the page for some common authoring tool errors or alt text creation
errors. If you select this report you will also get this information included
with your results.
If your page has failures, you can check to include
the source code of the page in order to assist with locating the failing code.
Emulate this Browser - This is specifically important
for dynamic content. By default the Cynthia 1.0 Agent is selected. If your page
displays different content for different browsers you will want to test for
different browser User agent strings.
When a web browser or other type of user agent
submits a request for a page from a web server, part of the request from the
browser includes information about itself, including the name of the agent, its
version, etc.
In most cases, the web server returns a valid web
page to the agent or web browser.
Some web developers write web pages with different
content for different web browsers. While the newest Web browsers support this
content, the information must also be accessible to users with older browsers.
Submit the form by using the "Test your site" button!
After a few seconds, the report will appear in your browser.
